Tuesday April 7, 2009
Reward programs can be divided up across several different areas. Firstly it depends on the type of credit card the reward programs are attached to and the level of credit card. This means if the credit card is a business credit card or a personal credit card and whether it is your standard credit card or a premium card like a gold or platinum credit card.
Next to remember if choosing a reward program is that there are different reward programs with a range of different perks and benefits. These benefits can range across many different avenues including:
- Automotive
- Lifestyle
- Points for cash/credit
- Frequent flyer
- Merchandise
- Entertainment
- Food & Beverage
- Shopping
Credit cards different reward programs provide great incentives through these benefits to credit card users and tend to influence a consumer choice of one credit card over another, thereby being a powerful tool used by banks and financial institutions to influence a potential credit card holder's decision.
From a consumer perspective, a credit cards rewards program can really provide great benefits and services for your use of a credit card. This is especially true if you make frequent large purchases on your credit card as the majority of reward programs don't cost anything to be a part of, meaning you get frequent benefits and rewards for any spending with no drawbacks.
However, credit cards with great rewards programs generally have higher interest rates attached but this will not be an issue as long as repayments are made on time each month.
What is important to remember as a consumer is if you will actually get to use a rewards program. If you spend under $1000 a month then a rewards program will present little benefit.
